Family
|
I married in 1997 to Jeffrey H. Hornstein and we now have two daughters, Marnina (5) and Aliza (21 months). Our life is hectic and fun.
My nuclear family is all well. My parents still live in St. Louis, in Olivette. My oldest brother, John, is married and has three daughters and lives in Mendota Heights, Minnesota. My younger brother Andy is living in Clayton (in Davis place to be exact!) He is married with three boys. Their oldest will start CHS in the Fall. Jim lives with his partner in Stamford, Ct. and they have a son. And my sister (last but not least!) is living in St. Louis with her husband and two sons. (Just bought a house in Claverac Park.) and her kids will be starting kindergarten in a year or two.
Raul Cabara, the AFS student that stayed with us our sophomore year is still in touch with my family and recently brought his son up to meet my parents. He also joined all of us in Disney world where we celebrated my Dad’s 75th Birthday! It was quite an occasion and good to see him.

CHS Memories (Friends, Funniest story, Teachers, Events, Activities, Sports, Songs, Would like to forget…, etc.)
|
Thirty years is a long time to remember back to and even more frightening, is that there’s even more, prior to 30 years! What I remember about high school is when the campus became open for lunch and then going to the Posh Nosh for lunch every day! (or so it seemed!)
I still remember sitting in Mr. Armstrong’s room and someone coming in and asking to borrow the eraser for Mr. Aztec. Mr. Armstrong asked “What’s in worth to you?” Who ever it was said “Nothing”, and proceeded to leave without it! I decided that asking someone the value of what they were asking for what a smart thing to do and it’s helped me a lot in life. |
After High School (Career, Accomplishments, Favorite Activities, Message to classmates…, etc.)
|
After high school, I went to Macalester College and earned a degree in Urban Studies with a minor in political science. I came back to St. Louis for three years and did a year of law school and worked in a bank. Then I moved to Chicago and have worked in the field of Community Development and Affordable Housing for over 20 years. I do have a Masters in Business Administration from DePaul, which I earned at night. At present, I have my own consulting firm and am currently under contract with the Metropolitan Planning Council, a regional planning organization for the Chicago Region, to work with companies to implement Employer Assisted Housing programs so that their employees can purchase or rent homes close to work. Most of my work has focused on affordable housing finance and the structuring of financial packages to serve households within targeted income ranges.
In my spare time, which isn’t much these days, I like to garden and read books. |
