Family

Married to Maureen.  We met at Mizzou.  Our first date (I made the mistake of asking her what she wanted to do) was at the St. Louis Symphony.   During the symphony’s performance, I wondered if the date was worth missing the MU’s basketball game that night.  Over the years, I suspect that at times Maureen has wished that I had attended the BB game instead.

Maureen is an assistant prosecutor for Cole County.

Jane McGuire Monaghan (13 years old).   You sure learn a lot about life from your kids—especially your first born—and Jane is a great teacher.  My attendance at the CHS reunion means that Jane and I will not attend the annual “Pop ‘N I” Girl Scout weekend for the first time in six years--so I owe her big time.

Matthew Leo P.  Monaghan (11 years old).  A southpaw with an inside-out swing.  For better and/or worse, the acorn did not fall far from the tree.

Jean Monaghan, my mom, lives in Richmond Heights.   She will enjoy reading the classmate profiles.

Dick Monaghan, my brother and CHS class of ’72, lives in Webster and is doing well.

Pets:  Achilles is our 3 legged dog; Sammy and Sonic are cats; and Mac is a guinea pig.

CHS Memories (Friends, Funniest story, Teachers, Events, Activities, Sports, Songs, Would like to forget…, etc.)

I am usually smiling, laughing, and/or embarrassed when I recall events from high school.  While I certainly wasted some great educational opportunities and I did a lot of silly and stupid things, I look back at my high school years as a great time.

I have so many fond memories of friends and teammates.  Being a teammate was such a wonderful experience.

We also learned some life lessons from coaches who taught us that while “hell is only half-over,” (Quiring)  we need to “keep our dobbers up” (Quiring), “to get a little better everyday” (Griffith), and to be mindful and inspired by “24,000 American boys at Iwo Jima” (Adzick).

After High School (Career, Accomplishments, Favorite Activities, Message to classmates…, etc.)

William Jewell College.  I lasted one year as a high school history teacher/coach in Bethany, MO.  I then attended grad school in history at Texas Christian University and law school at Mizzou.

I am a lawyer/lobbyist.  I find the work interesting, challenging, and it is often fun.

Life is good; I truly have what I want.

Thanks to Andy and the rest of the reunion crew for putting together the reunion.  I really enjoy reading the classmate profiles and seeing the photos.   I look forward to the reunion.
