CHS Memories (Friends, Funniest story, Teachers, Events, Activities, Sports, Songs, Would like to forget…, etc.)

Most remembered friends Jr High to High School… Mike Abell, Mimi Baron, Mike Abell, Mimi Baron, Helen Dolan, Sarah Korklan, Sue Redow, Lorna Morris, Mike Abell, Mimi Baron, Mike Abell, Mimi Baron, Jimmy Platt, Warren Detjen, Bobby Michelson, Glenn Marks, Dori Donnell, Mike Abell, Mimi Baron, Mike Abell, Mimi Baron!

Funniest story, most embarrassing moment, would like to forget…all rolled into one… at a dress rehearsal for “Hello Dolly”, I was mortified to discover that Dr. (what was the choral director’s name?) and his assistant had a wig for me to wear. After receiving a blistering lecture on proper care for the wig, I was promenading the runway around the orchestra during the song “Hello Dolly.” During the chorus…”Here’s my hat fellas” I pulled the wig off, made giant sweeping motions around my head with the wig and flung the wig into the orchestra pit… much to the dismay and disbelief of all! Goody two-shoes Susie Perkoff… showing such disrespect…tsk tsk!

Will always remember playing Anne Frank and Tootles (“Peter Pan”). Will always remember rooting the Greyhound football team on with Mike at the helm. Will always remember the heat in the pool bleachers while watching water polo! A source of great jokes with all of my college friends that I went to a high school with a water polo team! Will always remember Clayton Park… swimming in the summer, skating in the winter, romantic nights huddled around the bonfire and walking through the park.. No parks like that in Seattle. Will always remember our English teacher, Mr. Smith, insisting I read the “New Testament.”  And honors History, studying Watergate! Will always be sorry I dropped Physics. Will always remember our French teacher’s espadrilles… a different color for every dress. Can’t remember her name, or much French… but I can remember her shoes!…Ah oui…Miss Jones!

After High School (Career, Accomplishments, Favorite Activities, Message to classmates…, etc.)

I graduated from University of Michigan with a bachelor’s in Speech, Communication and Theatre and eventually got a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction from Seattle University.

I love my work now and feel that all I did and studied led me to this work. I am a founding teacher of a small, private Jewish Day School. I teach kindergarten Hebrew/Judaic studies, general music k-5, and am the Admissions Director. I sing as a lay cantor for my synagogue and am hired as a storyteller and songleader for various community gatherings throughout the Pacific Northwest. I continue to  enjoy involvement with Community Theatre with my husband, Terry as musical director/accompaniest, and currently am enjoying my largest role since my infamous “Hello Dolly” story as Sarah Brown in “Guys and Dolls.” Probably my greatest theatrical accomplishment… aging, comedic, short, alto actress…..cast in role typically given to tall, striking, ingénue, serious sopranos! Where else but Community Theatre!!???

Greatest accomplishments… Having a wonderful family; a husband of 25 years and two beautiful, bright, active, kind and compassionate children. Buying a house in Seattle in the height of a seller’s market frenzy 13 years ago without help from family. Teaching children and helping kindergarten parents find their way to raising their kids well. Using my music to help a friend die with grace and peace.

Message to CHS classmates:

Glad you found me. How strange to review the impact of High School as my kids are finishing (or have finished) that phase of their lives. Can’t help but wax a little philosophical.

Mike, thanks for helping me learn what love is all about.

Mimi, thanks for showing me what challenging the status quo and laughing is all about. (Do you remember taping songs in your mom and dad’s bedroom?), and no, I haven’t been able to link up with Heather S., but I will!

Jimmy, thanks for taking me to see “Blazing Saddles.” I never really have gotten into the movie, but if I hadn’t gone, I would have missed out on 30 years of cult conversation at parties.

Jon Deex…. The boy we all had crushes on ever since 2nd grade! You were always a great dream for every girl! Same to David Stone!

LSD lives on…. Lorna (Morris), Susie (Perkoff), Dori (Donell)!

Bobby… where did you go after our Freshman year at U of Michigan? I never saw you again!
