CHS Memories (Friends, Funniest story, Teachers, Events, Activities, Sports, Songs, Would like to forget…, etc.)

Friends: Wonderful funny & smart friends from all the tough neighborhoods including Glenridge, DeMun, McMorrow, & Meramec.

Teachers: Physics teacher Lou Deall – a genius, a wonderful passionate teacher and a real mensch. Kicked out of Hogan’s English class while rambling on about the great and deep lyrics behind Don McLean’s “American Pie.”

Activities: Running for class office three times and being defeated three times. Running cross-country and never understanding why. Train-hopping (really stupid move). Fond memories of proms with Joni Catalano (’73) and Susie Perkoff.

Miscellaneous: Spending alternate senior year of high school working on Capitol Hill and on a steamboat on the Mississippi, and traveling to Russia on a language-study trip.

After High School (Career, Accomplishments, Favorite Activities, Message to classmates…, etc.)

  • Swarthmore College (B.A.) & Columbia University (M.B.A.)

  • Reporter for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and stringer for the New York Times in St. Louis for three years after college.

  • After graduate school worked for small publishing company called “NewsBank” in Connecticut and then in various editorial and business jobs for giant media & entertainment firm “News Corporation” for 16+ years in New York, Boston and Los Angeles.  In the middle of this stint took a leave of absence and moved to the Berkshires (western Massachusetts) where I owned and ran a small tourist publication for two years. Am now a stay-at-home Dad in New York and trying to come up with a start-up business idea.

  • Learned to fly and eventually got a pilot’s license, but fly very little now.
